Improving quality of life in southwest Detroit

Safety and beautification are important to residents of the southwest communities. The Southwest Detroit Community Court and Justice Center work together to achieve community goals and judicial fairness.
Mission

The mission of the Southwest Detroit Community Justice Center is to increase public trust in the justice system, assist in the reduction of crime, improve  the quality of life and meet the needs of the community.

What is Community Court?

Community court is a specialty court that focuses on holding offenders accountable while providing social services linkages.  These courts actively involve the community in crime reduction initiatives.

The first community court in the U.S. was the Midtown Community Court launched in 1993 in Manhattan, New York City, NY.  Several dozen community courts, inspired by the Midtown model are in operation around the country.  International interest in community courts is also increasing.
